I have a bit more time to write to today and so i thought i would describe Brazil more in depth, what its like an average day and some similarities and differences.
First off i want to describe how much the USA has an impact here. No one speaks English but everyone has clothes that have English written on them. You also hear musical groups such as the Beatles or ACDC, or Taylor Swift everywhere you go, they dont understand what they're saying, well some do, but for the most part they just like the sound and music.
Second. Brazilians care about their style very much, i live in a small town but people here are wearing clothes to try new trends and new hairstyles, its kind of like New York city.
Third. Everyone loves Bob Marley, i dont know why, but everyone has shirts hats and listens to Bob Marley.
Fourth. Everyone wears the New York Yankees symbol. For the most part its just on hats that ive seen but serriously 1 out of 4 people walking down the street will have a new york yankees logo on their clothes.
Fifth. The heat. The heat here is interesting, its a dry heat thank goodness, but the sun really isnt hot, its just annoying you have to squint your eyes all the time. There is an interesting way of life here concerning walking. There are not many trees and so the only shade comes from the houses on either side of the street. During the morning people walk on one side of the street in the shade, when the evening comes they walk on the other side of the street where the shade is. Everyone will be on the same side of the street because they want to avoid the sun. I thought it was interesting.
Sixth and final. The great thing here is that the members of the church are the same, they take care of you and feed you and if your lucky you can get a ride somewhere. The teachings and atmosphere of the churhc here are they same in Virginia and the same in Michigan. im gald of this and it has helped the adjustment to a new world.
Thats pretty much it for this week and i will try to attach some pictures.
Sincerely,
Elder Kochenderfer
