I've only been in the mission field a week it is obvious that it is different from the Missionary Training Center. When I was young I always thought missionaries were the ones that got fed free food and taught spiritual lessons. Everyone liked the missionaries. But coming out here in the field I view reality. A mission is a full time job. And even though we get fed and everyone at church may love us. It really is a job. We knock on doors quite a bit, so far this week, no one has let us in their house to talk about the Gospel. The previous week was a bit discouraging but it ended with a lesson learned. My companion stared to notice that I was getting discouraged. He has been out for a while. He told me that once you knock on a door and they let you in. When you see that person dressed for baptism, it makes all the time you spent worth it. It reminds me of what Dad said " You have to take a thousand pictures to get a really great one." I'm learning that you have to knock on a thousand doors to find that individual(s) who are ready to receive the restored gospel. That was the lesson learned.
The week got better. We started teaching some people who were less-active and one new investigator family that was found by knocking on doors.
Often times, I wonder "Why am I out here?" Then I remember the debt that I am in to Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ. Through Christs teachings and atonement I've become more than who I could have on my own. I tell that to myself every time I question myself. I hope you have a blessed week and continue to grow closer to your Father in Heaven and His son. I know IT's true.
Sincerely,
Elder Eric Kochenderfer
