Dear Family,
Life as a missionary right now is winding down. We are getting ready to leave the MTC. I was expecting to receive my re-assignment but it didn't get it in the email. I expect to get it by mail soon or i can check my email. This week has been more learning Portuguese and learning how to teach the gospel principles. I'm not sure if I told you last time, but our district/zone, used to be only 7 people. That is very small for the MTC. We just got 5 more Elders in our zone, so now we actually will have people in sacrament meeting. Last week we had all 7 of us doing responsibilities. There was no one in the audience for sacrament meeting. I am well taken care of. When I get the opportunity to use Internet outside of the MTC, I will forward a few videos of how much fun we have at the MTC.
We had a devotional about the importance of member missionaries. The speaker used the example of Alma and Amulek. The people of Ammonihah weren't impressed by Alma's testimony but when Amulek bore his testimony the people of Ammonihah were astonished. The members are the most important testimony borne. A cool fact we learned is that 2/3 investigators will be baptized when they receive a lesson at a members house. I thought that was cool.
We also had the opportunity to teach via SKYPE on Thursday. We talked to a couple in Brazil. The speed that they spoke amazed me. I understood about 5% of what they were talking about. It was a great experience to listen to them, but most importantly it was humbling. I wish they had given us missionaries this experience earlier. I study hard now, but I would have studied so much harder if I had talked to real Brazilians before. It was truly humbling.
Be aware that I will be leaving soon and my address will change. I will of course let you know what it is as soon as I know where i'm going.
I love you all,
I pray for you
I know the Gospel of Jesus Christ is true, its the instructions to live a happy life. I know this and have learned this of myself.
Sincerely,
Elder Eric Kochenderfer
